I will use this colour scheme for the digipak and magazine
advert because I think it has the right balance of bright and pastel colours.
The bright colours draw attention, while the paler shades reflect my artist’s
brand. I have used a couple of pink shades as these will appeal to my target
demographic, however I haven’t only used feminine colours as this may limit the
breadth of listener and would also be likely to look far from professional.

Ancillary Text Font Response
The majority of those I asked preferred the Riesling font, so this is the font I will predominantly use for my ancillary texts (the digipak and magazine advert). Participants also liked the Breamcatcher and Bernardo Moda fonts, so I may use these for other pieces of text.

Ancillary Texts Font Ideas
These are my initial ideas for the ancillary texts. I think
that using a consistent font throughout the texts will create synergy and
ensure recognisability. These fonts work because their thin elegance reflects my
artist’s femininity. Each
is also rather unique, making them instantly identifiable. I will ask my target
audience of 7-25 year-old females to vote on which font they prefer.
For the artist’s name I will use a fairly simplistic font. I want it to be interesting, and thus recognisable, but at the same time I need the name to be easily read in order to promote Palmer as an artist. I will also use capitals in order to make the text stand out. The artist name will also be larger than the album title in order to attract Palmer’s fans.

Music Video Update
I have decided to change some of my music video.
Some of the scenes were supposed to be filmed outside, however I feel that this
will look out of place because it would only be about six lines. Therefore I
will film all scenes in front of a white backdrop.

Digipak Photography Disk and Booklet Plan
I
want the disk to feature an image of a decorated cupcake. The sweetness of the
image will reflect Palmer’s personality, youth and femininity. Furthermore this
gives the viewer a ‘break’ from Palmer’s face, to ensure that she is not seen
as vein and excessively image obsessed.
The booklet image will feature Palmer sucking her
finger and looking surprised. Natural looking images like this are inviting
because they look informal. Furthermore, they give a sense looking behind
closed doors- you wouldn’t usually see an artist baking. This would present
Palmer to be sweet and feminine because it suggests that she like cooking,
which is stereotypically associated with housewives (archetypal women). However
through her body language Palmer suggests that she isn’t perfect at cooking,
making her relatable and fun-looking. This also stops her from seeming limited
by her gender.
Digipak Photography Back Cover Plan
The back cover will show Palmer pouring tea, surrounded by an array of treats. The colour scheme will stay pastel colours. She will be looking down at what she is doing rather than at the camera, to give a more natural look. The scene will be busy but classy.

Digipak Photography Cover Plan
My
digipak cover will be a close up shot of my artist. The focus on her face will
promote her image. She will have pink voluminous hair and winged eyeliner, with
a pastel pink lip. The image to the left is very similar to the overall look I
want to capture. My artist will, however, look more serious as opposed to
smiling. Despite this she will still look happy. She will also stare into the camera, as if to hold eye contact with the viewer.

Product Order: Hair Chalk
I
have ordered some hair chalk to use in the digipak photography. As it is coming
from Asia it may not come in time; in which case I will try to find some on the
high street. I think this will give my artist a very sweet, feminine look which
will suit her public image. The pink colour will also appeal more to
women/girls (the target audience) rather than men.

Digipak Hair Inspo
I
came across this hair tutorial by Lou Teasdale on YouTube, and thought it would
be awesome for my digipak. As Francesca is blonde, the hair colour will show up
much clearly than on the model. Therefore I will only use a pastel pink, so
that the look is pretty and sweet rather than eccentric and peculiar. I
probably won’t use a weave either because I don’t think her hair needs this and I think it would be difficult to make it look natural.

Digipak Audience Response
When I asked participants which of the digipaks they
preferred, the majority really liked Pixie Lott’s album cover. The pretty
pastel colours are very feminine and fit Lott’s brand, while also contrasting
with the neon text. Contrasting colours are very good at drawing emphasis to
important aspects of the cover, and I will use this when designing my own
digipak. The digipak features an image of the artist, which is what I plan on
doing when producing a cover for Palmer. Viewers liked this, because you can
easily see whose album it is. Furthermore the intense eye-contact engages the
viewer. The styling of her hair and her body language presents her as shy and
innocent.
Participants didn’t like Amelia Lily’s album because
it is too bright, or Kelly Clarkson’s because it is too dull. Creating
something in the middle will avoid these issues.
